‘How Does Film Music Work’- come and join an afternoon’s discussion with Martin Armiger, film composer and Head of Screen Music at AFTRS.

The workshop will focus on the unique role music scores have in enhancing films. How does it all come together? Martin will share some beautiful sequences of screen music film clips as examples.

He will also discuss what is wrong with film music and why directors, such as Lars Von Trier, create films without music soundtracks. Participants will also get Martin’s overview of how to get it right. He will outline strategies, tactics, and pathways to navigating the creative battlefields and political jungles that surround the world of screen music.

This is an essential workshop for directors, producers and all filmmakers who want to ensure they add value to their film, documentary or screen production via the all important and elusive facet of music.



MARTIN ARMIGER – is an award winning film composer who has written music for around sixty feature films, telemovies, documentaries, series and mini-series. His projects include Cherie Nowlan’s films Clubland and Thank God He Met Lizzie, Yahoo Serious’ Young Einstein, Jane Campion’s Sweetie, Jan Chapman’s 1984 ABC series Sweet And Sour, the long-banned 1975 heroin exposé film Pure Shit, as well as Marking Time, The Secret Life Of Us, Come In Spinner, Body SurfersPolice Rescue and many others.

He composed the current on air music for ABC TV News and his most recent film music is for Mark Lewis' 3D feature Cane ToadsThe Conquest (to be released in 2010). Before all this he played guitar and wrote songs for a living, touring and recording with the Melbourne band, The Sports.
