Anatomy of a Massacre follows an Australian led forensic investigation to find the missing protestors from the 1991 Santa Cruz Massacre in Dili, East Timor. Director and producer Andrew Sully joins expert forensic teams from Australia and Argentina as they exhume the mass graves of an estimated 200 people, who were shot and killed by the Indonesian military during a peaceful independence march in East Timor. Images of the massacre made global headlines and were instrumental in forcing the world to recognise the plight of the East Timorese and their fight to gain independence from Indonesia. The findings of the forensic team shed light on one of the most infamous mass murders of the 20th century. Come and see the story behind the headlines.
