Duration: 90 mins
Writer and director Matthew Chuang's debut feature is a slick and fast paced action thriller, despite being shot over three years with a skeleton crew and budget. Chuang and his producer, Luke Graham are Tropfest winners with a music video background and are definitely 'ones to watch'.
Braille is the story of Nick (Nicky Wright), an aged blind man with a past that has left him broken and forgotten. Nick enlists the services of three young thieves Renny (Renny Holder), Zero (Zero Murray) and Dave (Dave Purton) to help him retrieve a precious diamond, and finish a job that he started fifteen years ago. At its core, Braille embodies the themes of honour, loyalty, and ultimately, tragic destinies. As lone individuals, the characters lives are without direction, but when their paths cross by chance they define each other's fate. The world they inhabit, shown in this original and adventurous film, is far removed from what is regarded as normal social structure.
