Jonathan Ogilvie was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He worked on the crew of several high budget feature films when living in London in the 1980s, including Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. His first short film, Despondent Divorcee, was selected for Official Competition at the 1995 Cannes International Film Festival. His next short, This Film is a Dog, was also selected for Competition at Cannes. The film won Tropfest in 1996.
Jonathan directed another short Trunk, a digital short feature Jetset, and a black and white Super 8 feature, Emulsion. He wrote and directed The Tender Hook (2008), starring Hugo Weaving, Rose Byrne and Pia Miranda. This film was nominated for five AFI Awards, as well as an Australian Writers Guild Award nomination for Best Feature Screenplay. Currently developing two feature film scripts, Jonathan is a directing lecturer at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
Synopsis:
A time to kill … A time to heal.
1943. A New Zealand soldier, once a straggler on Crete after the Allied retreat, returns to the island as an allied agent. His struggle against the occupying forces is complicated by two defiant Cretans: Nikos, a seasoned partisan and Irene, a young school teacher. This war-time adventure script is a journey of loyalty and love in the most difficult of circumstances.
