History of The Festival

Established in 2007, Dungog Film Festival showcases Australian films — past, present and future — in a non-competitive environment that celebrates and promotes Australian screen culture. As it enters it’s fourth year, the festival has established itself as one of the country’s key events and has been included on the prestigious NSW Events Master Calendar.

Festival Director, Allanah Zitserman, founded the Dungog Film Festival with filmmaker Stavros Kazantzidis.  Their aim is to foster a greater appreciation of home-grown content amongst Australian audiences, strengthen bonds within the film and television communities and present a cultural experience in a rural setting.

Over the years, film luminaries, emerging talent, actors, film buffs, students, industry executives, journalists and switched on audiences have flocked to Dungog in increasing numbers. Attendees love the festival because it offers a truly world-class festival experience. Film industry professionals enjoy the laid back vibe, creating an intimate atmosphere that promotes camaraderie.

The festival presents a smorgasbord of new Australian features, restored masterpieces, thought-provoking documentaries, cutting edge shorts, premiere television and live script reads to audiences who experience the rare opportunity of getting up close and personal with filmmakers and actors.

The Dungog Film Festival is presented by Dungog Film Festival Limited, a not for profit organisation listed on the Australian Register of Cultural Organisations.
